Pasta et Al, The Book

It is happening! I am so proud to announce that Pasta et Al: The Many Shapes of a Family Tradition, is set for launch on 2 August 2023, and now open for pre-order!

I’ve poured everything I have into this book: heart, stories, answers to all of those questions that have built over the years. And of course 30 different doughs, 42 different shapes, 60 different sauces, and so many photos.

All of you out there have shown us just how powerful and far-reaching a little family tradition can be. You helped us to discover that there was something bigger than just a blog and social media, and you supported us the whole way with your enthusiasm.

Most importantly, you asked for a book (both kindly and forcefully), and so here you are! If you’re even half as excited as me and little Al (I’m sure El would be too if he knew what was going on), then please head straight to pre-order and snap them all up! I’m obviously a little biased, but I reckon it’s pretty good, and I think you’ll agree.

My sincere thanks to the whole team behind this: Hardie Grant Books, my publisher Michael Harry, editor Antonietta Melideo, copyeditor Andrea O’Connor, our designers at Evi-O. Studio, all of you in HG editorial, design and marketing, and of course my wife Rachel.

And now… Follow this link, and get yours pre-ordered today! Aussies, you’ll find a few more options here. And to our good friends outside of Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, and the UK, please run a web search to find the best online option for your location, or try your local bookstore.

More to come! Love from Al, Al, and El.

Grain-Free and Dairy-Free Pan-Fried Gnocchi with Broccoli Pesto

The past few years have been a wild, generally unpleasant family ride through chronic health issues, and we’re still just doing what we can to hang in there. Gluten-free is easy enough, and we’ve had great success adapting everything to GF (as you would have noticed in recent posts), and dairy-free is not too hard either (choking back your tears at not being able to drink grated pecorino straight from the bag when no one’s looking). But grain-free is a little trickier… So we’ve made things easier for ourselves by adding these gnocchi into regular rotation!

Nettle and Toasted Walnut Cappelletti with Radicchio Purée

It’s time for a new recipe, and this one’s inspired by the unkempt winter mess of our front yard. We’ve boiled up whatever nettles we could find on the path to the letterbox to make a brilliant green dough, and then filled that with a simple, smooth mix of mascarpone, toasted walnut, and lemon zest. And it’s all served on a bitter bed of radicchio, sautéed in white wine, with crunchy cacciatore sprinkled on top.
